1. Overview
A cervical slip disc is basically a result of a shift or bulge in one of the soft discs present in the bones of the neck. These discs act like shock absorbers and help to move neck smoothly. It also keep the bones from rubbing against each other. It’s symptoms can be constant neck pain, that might spread into the shoulder or even the arm. This can also happen if the outer layer of one of the soft discs gets weak. Cervical slip disc can also follow after an injury. This can develop over time, from a minor ache to a serious one.
2. Causes
There are many reasons by which cervical disc might slip. Getting older is one of them. Over time, the discs present in the neck dry out, loses flexibility and in some cases can also develop cracks. Everyday activities can also contribute to the development of this disease – like constantly looking down at a phone. A sudden injury can also lead to cervical slip disc like a car accident or lifting heavy weights. There are a lot of reasons that together contributes to pushing out the disc out of it’s place.

5. Clinical Findings by Doctor
When a neck pain is evaluated, the patient is first asked of the history and what seems to trigger the pain. The full story is heard and understood. Any past injuries or surgeries are also important to mention as they can also lead to the current problem. The patient is asked to move their neck in all directions to check for discomfort in any particular position. The muscles are also checked for any tenderness or tightness. The nerve functioning is assessed by checking the reflexes, testing the strength of grip or asking to push against their hand with arm. If a herniated disc is suspected, then an MRI is performed to get a clear and detailed look at the disc.
